You Can’t Stop What Must Become
You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.
After an entire year in hibernation (so to speak), I can feel the warmth of a whole new kind of metaphorical spring. Maybe you feel it too, or maybe you have doubts. In thinking it would never come, you’re afraid to be too hopeful. But maybe hope is everything we need to face this season.
We’re emerging from a difficult time, fraught with loss, confusion, sadness and fear. Not only our physical forms, but also our hearts and minds were held captive under a weighty blanket of a terrible life event. I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know–it has been hard.
But despite it all, a new era is coming. It is. I can feel it! A new human community is being reborn from the ashes of struggle. Life is transforming before our eyes and we have the chance (and choice) to be an integral part of it.
So today, on the Spring Equinox, I ask myself: How will I greet this emerging opportunity that clearly invites me to join the celebration? Who will I become?
In coming to my answer, I choose to prune last year’s dead leaves, the thoughts that hold me back and make me fearful. I reaffirm my desire, my commitments. I stretch my bones back into alignment. I make room for new ideas. I enliven my senses to this world that first and foremost does support life. I open the windows of my mind to a fresh breeze, to growth, to color, to laughter, to music, to sunsets and sunrises announcing a new day, a day made especially for me!
We all have a chance now (really all the time) to embrace the kind of rebirth and renewal within our hearts and minds that allow us to evolve into more positive, hopeful, beneficial, connected members of this human family. You can’t stop what must become, but you can decide the part you’ll play in it. What kind of force will you be in the world? What will make you feel fruitful when you reach the end?
Hope is a positive mindset that keeps us steadfast in the flow of life’s mysteries. It gives us the courage to become what we most need in this world. Have a very beautiful and hopeful Spring Fling!!
