Prepare Yourself to Have an Impact on the World

impact on the worldEveryone dreams of having an impact on the world! We want to make a difference. We want to know that our lives have not been wasted in the end. But it’s simply not enough to long for an opportunity to do great things. We have to also prepare every day for that greatness. Two weeks ago, I published another article titled Why Unrealized Purpose is Painful.

Today’s piece goes a little deeper into exactly how we can prepare ourselves for making an impact in the lives of others. Below are the seven most essential elements to grow in yourself to realize your greatness and give it to the World when the timing is right and your “call to action” becomes so loud you can’t ignore it anymore.

  1. Become Empowered

Understand and forgive your fears so nothing can stop you from going places and doing whatever needs doing to make an impact in the lives of others. We think power comes from achievement in the world, but true power comes from owning your decisions and their outcomes. Conscious decision making allows us to better assess and take risks without fear.

  1. Know What’s Important

Choose to value people for who they are, not for what they do. Value yourself for who you are, and where you are, and what you have. Accept that you are already enough, so you won’t have to fight against misconceptions about who or what you “should” be. Then you can have this same compassion and understanding for others.

  1. Expose Yourself to New Things

Resilience comes from facing and overcoming challenges. The more you expose yourself to the unfamiliar, the less you will be thrown off by surprising situations. Continually open new doors and take a look inside. You might find your greatest passion lurking someplace you never expected.

  1. Expand your Horizons

Leave the familiar often and develop curiosity for differences. Learn deep acceptance for others so that no man is a stranger. Your ability to see the equality of all people will open doors for you. It will allow you to cross borders and boundaries that might be closed to other people still attached to stereotypes and judgments.

  1. Be the Present Link, not the Missing Link

Live more in the moment. Do whatever it takes to release the grip of the past and fears and doubts of the future. Stay present so you can say what needs to be said, encourage others and give support where it is needed. Go first . Be the leader of your life.

  1. Follow your Intuition

Learn to tune out the noise, especially the high-dollar negativity of media and those who “follow” that. Tune into what your soul feels compelled to do. You might be surprised at how much more energy you have for creativity and inspiration.

  1. Develop Deep Gratitude

Gratitude is a way of life that begins within. It’s not about the external world and being thankful for things. It’s about inhabiting your life with joy and thankfulness. It’s about knowing that what you have is always enough in the present moment. Self-acceptance is the first step toward deep gratitude and once mastered, it gives us common ground with others.

You have to first become the greatness that you want to create in the world. Making any significant impact for others involves the simplest skills. Things like listening to their words, gazing into someone’s face, holding a hand, and being present. Becoming impactful requires living with impact. Cyclical in nature, you must foster the skills within and become them so you can share them with the world at large.
